• Since September 16, 2020, the completely free Alpha test phase that has been running for exactly one year has come to an end, and a new product phase has begun!
• Our new pricing model has been successfully activated and takes effect from 30 items created — after this, a subscription in various versions will be required. • Product photos no longer have to be taken directly in the browser — you can now upload them.
• The nutrition statistics should now work properly again.

Private and Public Photo Function, Zero Stock Deletes Expiration Date

The latest release includes the following new features:

• Reducing an item's stock to 0 now deletes its expiration date.
• Reducing an already-zero item again prompts to delete the item.
• You can now take private photos of items in your storage to find them more easily (available in the settings).
• You can also take photos for the OpenFoodFacts database that are shared with other users (also available in the settings).

Under the hood updates:

• Switched localization service from Locize to Weblate (feel free to contribute translations!).
• Simplified release pipeline for easier development and deployment.

Start of Development for the New Web App to Replace the Existing Objective-C iOS App

The main requests from users of the existing app were:

• Data should be syncable between multiple devices.
• Scanning products often lacks data.
• The product data available does not meet the expected quality.
• There should be an Android app.

What users liked about the app:

• Data was stored locally on the device (unfortunately in conflict with the above request for synchronization).
• The app was simple and easy to navigate.

In May 2019, the decision was made to completely rewrite the app with a modernized technology stack, after several attempts to modernize the existing app had failed. The choice fell on React with ReactJS for the web app, and the potential to later develop iOS and Android apps using React Native.
